i had a very wonderful and fulfilling time today!
went to the senior citizens thing today to help out as a student helper
thanks to eugene who couldn't speak any alien lang other than eng
he passed this role as a helper to meto take care of the senior citizens.
or else i would be scooping the food for the student helpers
it started off quite well apart from the arrival.
the district i was in charge of was Sin Ming.
there was other helpers as well one of them is lionel, linah, majula, jasmine, wendy, yan hao(yanDao),one i forgotten, shuzheng and andrew.
Andrew is from the same sec sch as me!!!!! HAHAZ
When the senior citizens arrived, i didn't know wat to do actually.
it took me split seconds for my brains to signal to my nerves to guide them to the north garden.
anyway on guiding them there talked lots with them!
brought them to the toilets and not long after tat
the game treasure hunt began!
cards numbered from 501 to 550 was hidden in the garden
the senior citizen (SC) were supposed to find the cards and we are in charge of helping them pick it up in case they can't bend down.
well, i can see tat most of them were so enthusiastic!
they looked like children when they run. haha
jus to find the cards.
after that, Morning SnAcKs!
then BIngO! game!
haha.. the elderly seemed so enthu in winning prizes
haha..so cute, i felt as if i am a mum taking care of so many children!
Then we had performance by students
followed by passing the parcel game. There was abit of trouble there due to the fact that i can't speak malay! they dun understand eng welL!!
then We had folk dancing, lIne dance and choir from the SC folk dance grp.
finally the long awaited lunch!
some of them are halaj, some vegetarian and some jus normal food
seems like a job for me the waitresss to take their order. haha.
i had a really fun time interacting with the elderly
talking to them about the past and thinkin of my grandma at the same time
hoping she can join in such a kind of activity!
then the prize presentations and goodie bags!
they were so happy to each receive a goodie bag!
finallyy home sweet home.
sending them back to the bus was saddening... i had tears in my heart
they too had the same feeling..
each ah ma, and ah gong called me over to tell me personally how much they had enjoyed their time here! i felt a sense of achievement! taking care of elderly wasn't that demanding at all.
in fact i really enjoyed myself on tat day helping out and not wasting my time slping or watching the tv.
i admit in actual fact i joined this activity partly for CCa points and My NYAA
but i can assure that next year when they conduct this activity again, i will be there purely to make the citizens happy and not becuz of my cca point that i joined for the sake of joining.]
Through this event i learnt alot and another thing is that i had widen my social circle. =)
